Epstein-Barr virus microRNAs in the pathogenesis of human cancers

نویسندگان

چکیده

The Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) is a gamma-herpesvirus involved with variety of human cancers, notably the endemic Burkitt lymphoma and nasopharyngeal carcinoma. In 2004, EBV was described as one first known oncoviruses to encode viral microRNAs (miRNAs), these molecules were found interact host targets. miRNAs modulate biological processes that are critical for carcinogenesis, contributing cell transformation tumor progression EBV-associated cancers. Herein we review discuss modulators biology well their usefulness putative markers monitor onset, progression, recurrence cancers associated infection.

Background: environmental factors may play a role in colon cancer. In this view, several studies investigated tumor samples for the presence of various viral DNA with conflictiong results.  The purpose of this study is to investigate the prevalence of Human papillomaviruses (HPVs) and Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) in patients with colorectal carcinomas. Association of Human Papilloma Virus and Epstein-Barr Virus with Ovarian Cancer in Shiraz, Southwestern Iran

Background & Objective:  Ovarian cancer is one of the most common cancers amongst women. The association of Human papillomavirus (HPV) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) with ovarian cancer is inconclusive; therefore, the aims of this study were to evaluate the frequency of HPV and EBV in malignant, ...

The oncogenic role of Epstein–Barr virus‐encoded microRNAs in Epstein–Barr virus‐associated gastric carcinoma

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection is detected in various epithelial malignancies, such as nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) and gastric cancer (GC). EBV comprises some unique molecular features and encodes viral genes and microRNAs (miRNAs) by its own DNA sequence. EBV genes are required to maintain latency and contribute to oncogenic property. miRNAs encoded by EBV have been shown to contribute ...

The Epstein-Barr virus and its association with human cancers.

The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) has been linked to the development of a variety of human malignancies, including Burkitt's lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, some T cell lymphomas, post-transplant lymphoproliferative disease, and more recently, certain cancers of the stomach and smooth muscle. This review summarizes these associations and in particular the role of the viral lat...

Role of microRNAs and Exosomes in Helicobacter pylori and Epstein-Barr Virus Associated Gastric Cancers

Emerging evidence suggests that chronic inflammation caused by pathogen infection is connected to the development of various types of cancer. It is estimated that up to 20% of all cancer deaths is linked to infections and inflammation. In gastric cancer, such triggers can be infection of the gastric epithelium by either Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), a bacterium present in half of the world p...
